The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Rehab Act) is the first federal legislation to address access and equity for people with disabilities. In addition to helping set the stage for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), this civil rights law prohibits discrimination based on disability in federal government employment, among other contexts. To honor the spirit of the Rehab Act, federal agencies develop and implement affirmative action plans to ensure equal employment opportunities for all workers, including those with disabilities.
